GHANIM International Corporation Sdn Bhd plans to capitalise on the growing halal food market through their collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE).
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ghanim Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nur Rahman and Dean of UBDSBE, Professor Masood Khalid was signed earlier today at the Senate Room of Chancellor Hall at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
Dr Nur Rahman told the New Brunei Daily that as the global halal market is growing, with 30 per cent of the global population estimated to be Muslims by 2030, Ghanim is looking to enter more markets and expand its brand’s visibility in the global market.
“Students from UBD can do market research both locally and internationally to examine the market demand, product quality and product diversity, so that we can take the opportunity to look at the results and utilise that for our benefits,” he said.
He noted that one of Ghanim’s main goals from the start is to deliver bruneihalalfoods products that are wholesome, innovative and trustworthy to local and international markets and that they have been successful in networking and distributing their products.
In order to accomplish this, he added, they have had to do countless research and exploration, with the help from their product development and market intelligence resource departments, to guide the decision-making in production, marketing and distribution of bruneihalalfoods products.
“This MoU today is in essence an acknowledgement of a unified partnership that will draw on both organisations’ strengths and widen capabilities vis-à-vis research-based activities, student engagement programmes and awareness raising,” he said.
Dr Nur Rahman went on to say that with the international halal market growing significantly, they will focus on more than just entering future markets and expanding their product portfolio.
They are also planning to manufacture products locally, through collaboration with UBDSBE, so they will be better accepted in Muslim countries and the halal market due to Brunei’s reputation of having strict halal procedures.
“This is an opportunity not only for Ghanim to grow, but we can take SMEs with us to grow and make new products and let them be able to export internationally through Ghanim,” he said.
To kick-start the collaboration, through UBDSBE’s Islamic finance and halal marketing research cluster, an international forum on halal industry and market is planned for 2018.
Invited local and international experts will be sharing their knowledge and experiences on production and marketing of halal food, halal tourism, Islamic fashion, halal pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Both parties have also agreed on collaborative efforts of mutual benefits through student engagement programmes and research-based activities.
